Local Natural Resources

The Village of Ashland is just miles from some of the most beautiful natural areas in Illinois.  The highlight of that beauty is the Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area.   This 26 square mile natural area was set aside in the 1980s for development of a nuclear power plant.  Originally called Site M, this area was eventually purchased by the State of Illinois developed into the largest fish and wildlife area in Illinois.  It's rolling topography and woodlands make it a prime location for sportsman from all across the United States and beyond.  Complete with a new lake, trails, equine facilities and camping amenities it is the perfect location for a weekend trip.  JEPC is but one of many options when exploring the beauty of West Central Illinois.
